The Living Spirit Endowment Fund is an "Inspiration Fund" to respond to changing conditions and new ministry needs in any area. When the United Church was founded, television and the Internet, for example, did not exist. Now, electronic communication brings our own members together and proclaims faith and justice to the world around us.
Many faithful people all over Canada are combining their gifts in the Living Spirit Endowment Fund to give the Foundation a flexible, generous way to support new and emerging projects. In 2006, this fund supported half the cost of an initiative to educate elementary and secondary students about the contributions of African peoples to global civilization; the diversity of African peoples, cultures, and geography; and the extraordinary resilience of Africans in the face of social, political, economic and environmental problems.
In 2007, the Living Spirit Endowment Fund helped an organization purchase a fully accessible facility to support their growing program that reduces persons' dependency on food aid, helps people make better use of scarce resources and offers job training. It also provided funding to a project promoting peace and friendship among Aboriginal and Non-Aboriginal people in the Maritimes by exploring teachings and traditions of elders from both cultures.
In 2008 the Living Spirit Endowment Fund helped to support two projects focused on nurturing and empowering youth and young adults in their spirituality, leadership capacity and social justice work.
