One gift. Many thanks.

Would you like to save time and paperwork by supporting all your favourite charities with just one gift of securities? Would you like to make a generous gift to an organization while remaining anonymous? A personal gift fund with The United Church of Canada Foundation lets you make one donation to your personal fund. Then we turn your gift into grants to the charities of your choice.

"I found it very easy dealing with you and the Foundation in making my idea of a gift a stock a reality. I knew that stock could be donated, but I didn't know how to do it or how my congregation, the recipient, could deal with it. The Foundation made it a simple process, and you responded promptly to all my emails. I am very glad that we have the United Church of Canada Foundation" -Anonymous Donor

  1. You contact The United Church of Canada Foundation to discuss your gift and the organizations you want to help. The Foundation prepares a gift agreement (download a sample) to record its obligations to you. Both parties sign the agreement.

  2. You may choose to name the fund (for example, The Smith Family Fund) or keep it anonymous.

  3. You make a gift, and receive an income tax receipt for 100% of the gift from the Foundation in the year the gift is received. The date of receipt is determined by the postmark on a mailed cheque, or the arrival of transferred securities into the Foundation's custodial account.

  4. The beneficiary (a congregation, for example) receives a grant from "The Smith Family Fund of The United Church of Canada Foundation" (or "an anonymous donor").

  5. The fund is considered established when you have signed and returned a gift agreement, and made an initial gift.

  6. The Foundation levies a transaction fee of 1/10 of 1% with a minimum of $35 on each gift to your fund to cover administrative costs. There is no charge for gifts from the fund to beneficiaries. Gifts to beneficiaries must average $1,000 in order to keep administrative costs under control. Each individual cheque must be at least $500.

Once established, the gift fund continues unless you request that it be closed. That means you can use it in subsequent years for further gifts to any Canadian registered charity whose objects and mission are not in conflict with the policies of The United Church of Canada. Congregations and other United Church institutions have been declared eligible beneficiaries. Charities not affiliated with the United Church may be reviewed by the Foundation before approval of a grant. The Board of Directors retains the right to disallow gifts to ineligible charities.
